A wedding with a hint of DECE

2019-01-14T13:34:53+02:00January 3rd, 2019|

It is always a joy to see our customers enjoying their DECE products, and when Chris and Aoife approached us and said they wanted DECE to be part of their wedding we jumped at the chance. Having volunteered at NetWorks Romania, our banner organisation, for the past 5 years they wanted to show their friends and family a part of what they have dedicated their lives to. They chose the brown Frank bow-ties to help the groom and his best men look like true gentlemen, while the bridesmaids each wore one of our Constantin belts to accessorise their beautiful tulle skirts. Along with accessorising their wedding party with DECE products, they chose to gift our cable ties to each guest, placing one in the classic DECE product bag at each seat. It was a pleasure to be a small part of their big day, and to see these beautiful photos from their photographer Sean Gallagher. We love hearing the way that DECE has impacted our customers, and [...]

Excited to announce DECE is now available in Germany

2018-11-29T16:06:06+02:00November 27th, 2018|

We are excited to announce that DECE now has it's first retailer in Germany! We have just partnered with Pravalia, a company based in Berlin Neukölln, who are dedicated to representing the best of what Romania produces. As part of our commitment to provide employment we are always looking for new markets to break into, new places for DECE to be discovered, and the story to be told. So when Pravalia approached us saying they were interested in the story and products of DECE, we were excited to partner with them, making them the first retailer in Germany to stock our products. DECE products are now available in store and online at www.Pravalia.de

Introducing our new collection

2018-11-22T11:24:34+02:00November 20th, 2018|

We are so excited to announce the launch of our latest collection: The re:collection For the last 6 years we, like most other fashion producers, have based our collections and colours on the constantly changing trends of the fashion industry. Each year we have ordered fresh, exciting colours and waiting with anticipation to see which ones would become your favourites. We love trying new things and being creative with colour but this year we stood back and looked in our stockroom at the wasted rolls of surplus fabric and yearns in colours from previous seasons and realised that we no longer wanted to function in this way. Hence the re:collection. One of our long-standing values has been to be keep DECE as ‘green’ as possible and we have always striven to source our materials from suppliers who produce them both ethically and environmentally. Now we hope this value will be manifest throughout the whole production process: from the materials purchased to the way we use [...]

Nothing goes to waste

2018-11-06T09:44:04+02:00November 6th, 2018|

*|MC_PREVIEW_TEXT|*   In a world where everything seems disposable, we choose to use every inch of the fabric and leather we buy. We believe in making products to last a lifetime, and we want to look after our planet while doing so. The fashion industry creates an estimated 92 million tons of textile waste annually*, and as part of that industry we want to do everything we can to help lower that number. When cutting the fabric or leather, our team make sure to space the patterns in the least wasteful way possible. They then use any cutoffs to create the smaller items in our collection, like our Key Fob or Earphone Tidy. Making conscious choices about the way we source and use our materials is key to how we work. This is DECE. * Global Fashion Agenda and The Boston Consulting Group, Inc. Developing our work hubs

2018-11-01T12:51:05+02:00October 23rd, 2018|

*|MC_PREVIEW_T   As our product lines and business have grown we have also been developing and building our work hubs; aiming to make them the perfect places to produce DECE products. In the past month have been working on making space for a new DECE leather press room. A leather press works like a giant cookie cutter. You insert templates of patterns into the machine and stamp these out. As part of our commitment to looking after our environment we make sure we use as much of the off cuts of leather as we can. When a bag is cut out, the off cuts are used to make our smaller accessories such as bracelets and cable ties. With a leather press this process becomes quicker as the off-cuts can quickly be placed in the machine and cut. When companies make large scale orders for their clients and employees we will be able to stamp out these smaller products like the coasters or key-fobs quickly and neatly, [...]

When empowerment births empowerment

2018-10-09T13:40:00+02:00September 27th, 2018|

*|MC_PREVIEW_TEX   Six years ago, after seeing the positive impact of providing employment for women through our crochet hats, we began to create work for the men in community too. Starting with one man at home, teaching him how to carefully measure and cut leather to make bracelets, the leather work in DECE began. With determination and dedication the leather products developed and grew into belts, wallets, laptop cases and bags. One man in a small home workshop became 2 men walking down to our hub, then 3, then 4 and now we have a thriving leather hub. As you have seen over these summer months the apprentice program is up and running, men are investing in men. Trade and skills are being handed down, empowerment is birthing empowerment. DECE artisans take pride in their work, crafting leather products each day, making sure the hand stitching is perfectly spaced and that the handcrafted fastenings fit each product exactly. These men have begun to dream up [...]

Ethical fashion from start to finish

2018-10-02T10:57:09+02:00September 25th, 2018|

We believe that making a difference in the world includes being conscious about all the decisions we make. As artisans are enabled and empowered, we want to make choices that also look after our environment. This is why we choose to only use fabric that has GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) to make our hats and fabric bags. A product made with GOTS fabric is organically produced and ensures the process is fair to those who create it. It means there is accountability and sustainability attached to the process. It means that respect for the environment and people have been at the forefront of each step.  We know it is important to you all that each product you invest in is produced in a way that has positive environmental and ethical choices throughout its entire process. That is why all our suppliers are vetted and each of our fabrics come with certifications so that you can buy beautiful products without compromising your ecological footprint. Doing good [...]

When empowerment leads to transformed homes.

2018-09-25T11:38:47+02:00September 18th, 2018|

Hot running water, automatic washing machines, new ovens and beautiful tiles. This summer we have watched as some of our artisans have transformed their family homes. One of the things we have witnessed among our DECE artisans is that as you provide someone with employment they begin a journey of empowerment. And as they become empowered at work, their dreams for their families and home grow. A steady income releases stress, giving space to dream of the future and begin to save money to make those dreams a reality. This summer one of our leather artisans and his family have done just that! Before the renovation Now with hot water flowing into their home, a new automatic washing machine and a new kitchen fitted, it is so exciting to see this family flourish. This is empowerment.

DECE heads Down Under…

2018-07-31T12:55:53+02:00July 31st, 2018|

DECE "Down Under" An exciting new partnership for DECE this season... One of the most empowering things we have seen is employment. Secure work and a steady income means that people are able to plan for their own futures. One of our goals is to create more and more opportunities for work which means constantly developing new markets for our products. One of our huge challenges has been that we have had to overcome the simple fact that people don't buy many beanies in the summer. So we are really excited to announce that DECE is now entering the Australian market through a collaboration with Thread Harvest, who connect all kinds of producers with similar values with regard to empowerment, ethical and eco-friendly products. You can find our new page on Thread Harvest at: https://threadharvest.com.au/pages/dece With access to a new hemisphere (our summer is their winter), we are excited about the possibilities ahead and the connections to be found in the expanding world of ethical fashion. New DECE film coming soon….

2018-07-24T13:03:22+02:00July 24th, 2018|

Over the last week we were joined by some amazing people from the U.S.A. who came out to help DECE as we move forwards. The 30 second videos we have released so far have begun to tell our story and have been really well received by you all. Our vision for this new 5 minute video is that it will give more background and context to the work here and encourage you to share our story.  Gaines Minton who headed up the team, is a film maker from Butter in L.A. who are worth checking out (http://butter.la/). Butter work for some pretty big companies so we were really excited when they offered to come to make the next DECE video.  The team hit the ground running with all kinds of technical kit and kept up the pace for the whole week, trying to capture the work and the colourful people we walk alongside. It is always fun to work with professionals but it [...]
